Yrondu

Bengaluru FC, on Saturday, has extended Yrondu Musavu-King’s contract for two seasons. This new contract will see the Gabonese defender play for the Southern side until the end of the 2022-2023 campaign. Previously, Yrondu played one match for Bengaluru FC in an AFC Cup Preliminary Stage Two clash against Tribhuvan Army FC. Bengaluru FC ran riot in the match as they scored 5 past the Nepalese club. Football Monk takes a look at what Musavu-King can bring to Bengaluru FC.

Who is Yrondu Musavu-King?

Yrondu Musavu-King started his professional career at the reserves team of the French club, Caen. After spending 5 years with Caen-II, he was promoted to the first squad, in 2012. There he played along with current World Champion and European champion N’Golo Kante. Although he spent the 2013-2014 season in the French 3rd division club ES Uzès Pont du Gard.

In 2015, Yrondu moved to Spanish first division team Granada CF. However, he couldn’t make any appearances for the Spanish side. As a result, he came back to France, now to play for League 1 side FC Lorient. Yrondu spent the next season (2016-2017) in another French club, Toulouse. Musavu-King spent his last season in yet another French club Le Mans FC. He appeared on 11 occasions for Le Mans, before moving to India.

Playing for Gabon

Apart from the impressive club career, Yrondu has already got 14 appearances to his name in the Gabonese national team. He made his debut in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against neighbouring African nation, Congo.

What he brings on for Bengaluru FC?

Bengaluru FC had a roller-coaster ride of a season in the previous campaign of 2020-2021. Their head coach Carles Cuadrat left the club after a poor start to the season. Cuadrat’s assistant Naushad Moosa took on his role as an interim coach for Bengaluru FC. That caused a change of form, but it was too little, too late.

Under the new head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli, the Blues are looking for a comeback to their previous position among the best. And in this reformation, defensive stability will be a key towards success for them. Bengaluru FC conceded a total of 28 goals in the last season. They will definitely want to decrease those numbers. An internationally experienced defender like Yrondu can be the perfect fit, going forward for Pezzaiuoli’s team.

Speaking about this inclusion, head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli said, “I am pleased that we have managed to secure the signature of Musavu-King.  He is a fantastic professional with a wealth of experience as he has shown during his stay at Bengaluru FC so far. Football aside, he is also a warm personality in the dressing room and we look forward to having him in a Bengaluru shirt for two more seasons.”

Yrondu’s message

In a recent interview, Yrondu expressed his delight to join the Blues. He said, “First of all, I would like to thank the club CEO, the coach, all the staff and my teammates who welcomed me so well when I first came to India. I had good feelings about this club right from the start, and that is one of the reasons why I have decided to extend my adventure here.”

Currently 29, Yrondu is entering the later years of his professional career. Yet he has so much to deliver, for his vast experience in several leagues across Europe. “This group has good quality and the coach convinced me about the project he is building at a club that has been so successful. This fresh two-year deal is a new chapter in my professional life and it is one that I will be approaching with everything I can give. My goal is to win as many games as possible. I have seen the mentality and quality this team possesses and I am confident that together we are going to achieve many beautiful things,” Yrondu added.
