Anas Edathodika is all set to join ISL-Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC as Football Monk can confirm. Anas had a previous tenure for Jamshedpur in 2017-18. He is likely to strengthen Jamshedpur’s defense line, which looked struggling on many occasions in last season’s ISL campaign.
Although the 34-year-old central back is quite familiar with the Indian’s top division football. Anas was lately a free agent last year after his short run for ATK FC in 2019-20 which consists of only 5 appearances.
Anas started his professional career at I-League side Mumbai FC. There he had a total of 103 appearances in four years (2007-2011). Next, he joined another Maharashtra-based I-League side Pune FC where he spent the next four years of his career, appearing in 106 matches.
This consistent start to his career, helped Anas’s rise to glory as he joined ISL franchise Delhi Dynamos in 2015 as a star player. There he spent two years, gathering experience of top-level football. He also was loaned out to then I-League side Mohun Bagan in 2017 to strengthen their defense.
After that, he had a couple of year-long spells for ISL clubs Jamshedpur FC and Kerala Blasters FC in consecutive years. He appeared for 8 games in each of the campaigns. Then he joined ATK in 2019. There his future didn’t appear to be fruitful as his campaign ended with only 5 appearances for the Kolkata side.
Sources close to the development confirmed Football Monk that the defender has penned in a two-year deal with Jamshedpur FC keeping him at the club till 2023. The source said, “Anas has joined Jamshedpur FC. He has penned in a two-year deal with the club”.
2020-21 was a roller-coaster ride of a season for Jamshedpur FC. The Red Miners lacked consistency throughout the season. Even when they were winning, their defense looked alarmingly fumbled. In this situation signing an experienced defender like Anas can boost the strength of their squad dramatically.
