The reigning Hero I-league champions Gokulam Kerala FC have made their second move of the transfer window and have acquired the services of young Kerala defender Muhammed Uvais that will see him donning their jersey beyond the upcoming season.
Uvais was a key player in the KSEB team that faced Gokulam Kerala FC in the Kerala Premier League last season. The 22-year-old defender becomes their second recruit from the recently concluded KPL, thanks to their scouting team.
The Nilambur born defender has previously turned up Bengaluru FC United, FC Kerala, and also captained Ozone FC in the Bengaluru super division. Uvais is an alumnus of MSP football academy, Bharath FC Pune academy, and has represented Sudeva FC and Mohun Bagan during the initial stages of his footballing career.
Uvais is a rare talent because India doesn’t have too many left-footed centre-backs and he is one of them. The defender’s consistency was one of the key reasons behind KSEB’s run to the final.
“This is a breakthrough in my career. Gokulam Kerala FC is one of the major clubs in the country and it is an honour to represent them. I have keenly followed their title triumph last year and I believe we can do it again,” said Uvais.
“We have always identified young talents in Kerala and Uvais is another upcoming player. I believe that these youngsters can perform well in the upcoming season and make sure the title stays where it belongs to,” said Gokulam Gopalan, the chairman of Gokulam Kerala FC.
